Summer is notoriously the toughest season for sales teams. Customers are on vacation, reps are working with reduced coverage, and momentum built up over the spring often stalls out. For most telecom sales organizations, a dip in performance during July and August is treated as unavoidable; a seasonal cost of doing business.
Telenor decided to test whether that assumption actually had to hold.
The challenge
Rather than simply riding out the summer slowdown, Telenor set out to see whether real-time, personalized coaching could keep its sales team performing even as conditions worked against them. In July 2025, Telenor launched a four-week pilot, internally nicknamed "Summerpush 2025", to activate Agaton's AI-powered sales chat, across its team during what is typically its slowest stretch of the year.
The approach
Agaton was switched on to give reps on-demand, personalized coaching aimed at strengthening performance in the areas that move deals forward most: understanding customer needs, taking the initiative to sell, and closing effectively. Instead of a one-size-fits-all training refresh, each rep got contextual guidance in the flow of their work, week over week, for the duration of the pilot.
The results
The numbers moved in the opposite direction from what the season would predict:
- Hit Rate climbed nearly 28%, peaking at 65% by the final week of the pilot (up from a 47% benchmark).
- Sales per Hour rose 55%, going from a 0.17 baseline to 0.21.
- Growth wasn't a one-off spike. Hit Rate climbed steadily week over week (60% in Week 1, 56% in Week 2, 61% in Week 3, and 65% in Week 4) showing sustained improvement rather than a single lucky week.
Two other coaching metrics moved in tandem: Needs Rate (how well reps diagnosed customer needs before pitching) and Sales Initiative (how proactively reps pushed to sell) both tracked above benchmark for most of the pilot, reinforcing that the lift wasn't just luck. It reflected reps executing the fundamentals more consistently.
Why it worked
The Summerpush pilot is a useful data point precisely because it worked against the grain. Typical seasonal patterns would have predicted a dip in these same weeks. Instead, Telenor's team delivered consistent, compounding gains - evidence that personalized, always-on AI coaching can do more than pad performance during good stretches; it can actively counteract the conditions that normally drag performance down.
The takeaway
For sales leaders, the Telenor pilot offers a simple reframe: seasonal slumps aren't fixed costs; they're a gap that real-time coaching can close. A four-week test was enough to turn a traditionally slow period into a growth story, without adding headcount or reworking the sales process. It's a reminder that the biggest performance gains sometimes come not from doing something entirely new, but from giving every rep the equivalent of a coach standing beside them in the moments that matter most.
